Taking part in the Castrolmagnatrek was an absolute fascinating experience for Lynette, Angelique and me.
Our general travel direction Vic Falls hasn´t changed, but we´ve now taken the shortcut from Nata in Botswana via Pretoria, Bela Bela and Nelspruit. 1.400 km scenic route in a Castrol-labelled convoy of eight competition-cars and several crew Toyotas. I think, when adding the age of all other cars you get Angelique’s age.
Although we´ve certainly pointed out in the entry form, that our top speed is about 85 km/h, the crew was a little bit shocked at the beginning...but everything stayed surprisingly on schedule. And we eventually reached a top speed of 107 km/h. Downhill.
We didn´t win the contest, but in this six days we´ve met the nicest people and made a huge load of amazing contacts for the future. Teams, Crew (Castrol, Dream Team, Ogilvy and Jacaranda 94,2 FM), social-media-friends AND all the people along the road. A lot of new friends, some virtual, some real (I´m looking forward to Asifs curry!!!).
It will take us now a minimum of two or three weeks, to process all the contacts, pictures, stories, videos and mails. That´s fun-work! We´ll enjoy this and are very grateful about having had the chance of taking part in this amazing race.
Certainly also Angelique needs a little bit of maintenance. Some new sounds have to be checked, some bolts have to be tightened and I´m thinking of assembling a long range tank (to be able to take Lynette’s shortcuts), a second battery, a solar panel, a fridge for the veggies...
